DAY 1 RECAP
CAMBRIDGE, Mass – Harvard Women's Tennis continued to shine on the second day of the Harvard Invitational, winning two doubles crowns to highlight the afternoon. The Crimson posted a number of impressive victories in singles action, sending four student-athletes to the final round.
Senior captain Natasha Gonzalez and sophomore Rachel Eason continued their strong play with a victory over teammates Sophia Ho and Rachel Lim in the flight A doulbes finals. Lim/Ho fought until the very last point, eventually falling, 7-6.
First-year Demi Snyder and her partner Mihaela Marculescu dazzled in flight B singles play, posting a 6-2 victory over Dani Blaser and Lily O'Fagan of Boston University in the finals.
Gonzalez carried her strong play to the singles court, defeating Shelly Yaloz of Boston University, 6-1, 6-2, in the semi-finals. Gonzalez will compete against Terrier Erica Di Battista in the flight A finals tomorrow afternoon.
It will be a Crimson vs Crimson showdown in the flight B finals, as Marculescu and Lim both defeated their quarterfinals opponents to advance to the final stage. Marculescu defeated Ashley Huang of Cornell in straight sets, 7-6, 6-1, while Lim was able to come out on top after a superset tiebreak, 3-6, 6-3, 10-8.
The first-year, Ho, was victorious in her singles matchup against Katya Martens of BU. Ho took down her terrier foe in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the finals of flight C. Chelsea Williams battled with Steph Nguyen of BU for three sets, eventually dropping the match in a superset tiebreak. First-year Lauryn Wu gave Cornell's Sarah Campbell all she could handle, but fell in a close match.
