CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Head women's volleyball coach Jennifer Weiss has announced the addition of four incoming freshmen to the Crimson's roster in 2012-13; Caroline Holte, Hannah Schmidt, Jennifer Shults and Kathleen Wallace. This group has combined for three state championships, eight league championships and three Academic All-America honors, and will join a Harvard squad that returns 10 letterwinners from this past year.

Caroline Holte, 6-1, Middle Blocker, Laguna Beach, Calif.
Selected as a captain her senior year and earned four varsity letters in volleyball … Helped Laguna Beach High School to four straight league championships and four straight appearances in the CIF semi-finals … Named all-league first team and Prep Volleyball Academic All-America as a senior … Also named to the Junior Olympics All-Tournament Team as a sophomore … Member of the National Honor Society … Earned the Superintendent's Award four straight years while receiving the Excellence Award in AP Language and Composition and the Excellence Award in Honors Pre-Calculus as a senior … Community service involvement includes the Orangewood Children's Home, Special Camp for Special Kids, Super Sports Club and a trip to the Molokai Missionary … Performed in the Shap Show Musical Showcase as a junior and senior, and in the high school musical as a freshman.
"Caroline is a dynamic middle blocker and she moves well along the net, she has a good volleyball IQ and court awareness," Weiss commented. "She has played on a top club team and has great experience in the middle hitting position."
Hannah Schmidt, 5-11, Setter, Denver, Colo.
Selected as a captain her senior year and earned four varsity letters in volleyball … Four-year starter … Named first team All-Denver Metro League as a junior and senior … Also named team MVP as a junior and senior … Earned two varsity letters in track and field … Competed in the 100 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles, high jump and long jump … Qualified for the Colorado State Tournament in the 100 meter hurdles as a sophomore … Won the Kent Denver School Advanced Ceramics Award.
"Hannah is an all-round excellent athlete and volleyball player," stated Weiss. "She has hit in high school and she sets on her club team. She has a great delivery and sets a consistent location for her attackers. She will be a great addition to our offense and has the qualities to be a strong setter for our team."
Jennifer Shults, 5-11, Outside Hitter, Roswell, Ga.
Three-time captain and four-year letterwinner … Led Roswell High School to the Georgia State Final Four as a senior … Won the 6AAAAA Region Championship in her senior season and finished as the runners-up as a junior … Named the 2012 Georgia High School Scholar-Athlete of the Year and first team All-State … Also earned PrepVolleyball.com All-America Honorable Mention, PrepVolleyball.com Academic All-America and Armor High School All-America honors as a senior … Selected as the Region 6AAAAA Player of the Year and first team all-region as a junior and senior … Earned team MVP honors three straight years … Led the A5 Volleyball Club to a silver medal at the USA Open Nationals and a bronze medal at the AAU Open Nationals … Competed in the USA High Performance Championships as a junior … Member of the National Honor Society, the English National Honor Society, the National Spanish Honor Society and the Beta Club … Awarded the Princeton Club of Georgia's Woodrow Wilson Award for outstanding academics, leadership and community service … Recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction … Earned the University of Georgia's Certificate of Merit for ranking in the top five percent of the senior class … Has worked with the Hornets Advisory Program, as a peer tutor for the English and AP World Departments and as a Spanish translator for the Roswell Day of Hope … Served as a volunteer coach and assistant instructor for the Rowell Junior Hornets feeder volleyball team … Also served as a counselor for the Star House Camp for disabled children … Member of the yearbook staff for four years, serving as the underclass editor as a sophomore, the arts & academics editor as a junior, and the copy editor as a senior.
"Jennifer has been a go-to outside hitter at her high school and has played on a top club out of Atlanta," said Weiss. "Her versatility and natural athleticism will be great for our team. I look forward to having her join us in the fall and know she will impact our team."
Kathleen Wallace, 5-8, Outside Hitter, San Francisco, Calif.
Selected as a captain her senior year and earned four varsity letters in volleyball … Led Branson Preparatory School to three straight California Division V State Championships and a near perfect 41-1 record as a senior … Also won three straight Northern California and California North Coast Section Championships … Named the California Division V State Championship Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior … Also named Marin County Athletic League Player of the Year, MaxPreps California All-State Division V First Team, PrepVolleyball.com High School All-America and PrepVolleyball.com Academic All-America Second Team as a senior … Led her club team, Vision Volleyball Club, to a fifth-place finish at the 2011 Junior National Open … Won a gold medal and was named the Most Valuable Player with Vision Volleyball Club in the American Divison of the 2009 Junior Nationals … Member of the Branson Cum Laude Society … Was a National Achievement semi-finalist in 2011 and the lead of the Sustainable Seas Club for three years.
"I am excited to have Kathleen join our program and I know she will do well in the outside hitting position for us," Weiss stated. "She has an explosive vertical jump and will impact our offensive system. She has the ability to see the block and diversify her offensive shots, and is a six rotation player and will bring ball control to our game."
