CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Freshman Corinne Bain has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week for a third straight week and fifth time overall, conference officials announced Tuesday.
Bain, who began her career with the year's first rookie of the week honor, has been named the Ancient Eight's top newcomer five times and has also garnered one player of the week honor. She finished the regular season ranked first among all NCAA Div. I freshmen with six triple-doubles, and was third among freshmen with 14 double-doubles. The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native averaged 2.02 kps, 6.14 aps and 2.57 dps for the year, and also set a new program record with 50 aces from the service line.
Bain turned in her sixth triple-double on Friday with a 12-kill, 24-assist, 13-dig effort at Columbia. She followed it up with eight kills, 22 assists and nine digs at Cornell, and also matched her career-high with four blocks against the Big Red. For the week, Bain averaged 2.86 kps, 6.57 aps and 3.14 dps while hitting .267.
Harvard's season came to a close this past weekend with a 14-9 overall record and 9-5 in Ivy League play, good for second place in the Ancient Eight. The Crimson's 14 total wins and nine conference victories marked the most for the program since 2004, while its 9-2 record at home was a program best.
