Four Newcomers Set to Join Women’s Volleyball in the Fall

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Coming off an Ivy League title in 2014, Harvard women's volleyball head coach Jennifer Weiss has announced the addition of four incoming freshman for 2015; Christina Cornelius, Brooke Istvan, Jocelyn Meyer, and Anna Uhr.

This group of freshman collectively earned seven national championships, three medals at the AAU national championship, and two named Academic All-American by the AAU. The Crimson won the Ivy League championship this past season, marking the second Ivy title in program history and first in 10 years. The squad finished the year with a 19-5 overall record and 12-2 mark against conference foes, with the 12 Ancient Eight victories representing a new program record. Additionally, the team's 19 overall wins were the fourth most in school history.

Christina Cornelius | Middle Blocker | 6-2 | Los Angeles, Calif. | Windward High School

Earned four varsity letters at Windward High School and captained her team for one year … Also played for Santa Monica Beach Volleyball Club for two years and Mizuno Long Beach Volleyball Club for five years … Was named among the top 250 recruits by PrepVolleyball.com … Assisted the Mizuno Long Beach Club team at the Los Angeles Qualifier, securing a seventh-place slot in the open division in 2014 and 2015 … Named to the all-tournament team at the 2014 Girls Junior National Championships … Led the Mizuno Long Beach Club team to a second-place finish at the SCVA Qualifier in 2014 … The Mizuno Long Beach Club team held a third-place finish at the ShowMe Qualifier in 2014 … Helped her Windward High School team secure a second-place finish at the Far Western National Qualifier in 2013 … Earned a silver medal in 2011 at the Girls Junior National Championships, a bronze in 2012, and finished ninth in 2013 on the Mizuno Long Beach Club … Was named to the California Interscholastic Federation first team in 2013 and 2014, and named to the second team in 2011 … Member of the 2014 Under Armor Watch List … Selected as Middle of the Year on the 2014 All-Southern California Team … Named MVP of the Gold Coast High School League in 2014, of the Alpha League in 2013, and of the North Tournament in 2013 … Named Best Offensive Player at Windward High School in 2013 … A part of the AVCA Phenom List in 2012 and 2013 … High Honorable Mention on the Soph 79 List … Named Player of the Year on the SCVA Girls 15's and 16's in 2012 and 2013 … Secured a spot on the A1 and A2 team for the United States of America Volleyball (USAV) High Performance Indoor Team in 2011 and 2012 along with a spot on the USAV Holiday Camp selection … Inducted into the Service Honor Society in 2015… National medalist in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards for Visual Arts … Three years on the Windward High School Honor Roll.

Brooke Istvan | Setter | 5-8 | Hinsdale, Ill. | Hinsdale Central High School

Jocelyn Meyer | Middle Blocker | 6-1 | Springboro, Ohio | Archbishop Alter High School

Four- year letterwinner for Archbishop Alter High School in volleyball and basketball … Played for five years on the Air City Chicks volleyball team, three years on the Dayton Lady Hoopstars basketball team, and one year on the Ohio Lady Attack basketball team … Captain of the Archbishop Alter High School volleyball team in 2013 and 2014, the Archbishop Alter High School basketball team in 2014-2015, and the Air City Chicks volleyball team in 2015 … Led the Alter High School volleyball team to sectional, district, and regional championships in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 … Reached the state semi-finals in 2012 and 2014 … Led her team in the state semi-finals in 2014 with 28 kills in her final match … Led the basketball team to sectional championships, district championships,  and regional championships in 2014 and 2015 … Led the basketball team to a state championship in 2015 and a second-place finish in 2014 … The basketball team was ranked 11th in the country by USA Today during the 2014-15 season  … Awarded the Kacie Hausfeld Leopard Award in 2013 and 2014 …  Named to the All-League and All-District team in 2013 and 2014, the All-State third team in 2013, and the All-State second team in 2014 … Awarded the Basketball Coaches Award in 2012 and 2015, along with the 110% Effort Award in 2013 … Recognized as an AAU Volleyball Academic All-American in 2013 … Named a Key Club member, Alter Scholars member, a peer minister, and a student ambassador.

Four-year varsity letterwinner on 'Iolani School's volleyball team and captained the team in 2014 …  Also lettered in track, water polo, and paddling … Captain of the Imi'ike Volleyball Academy, playing for three years … member of the Ka Ulukoa Volleyball Institute for six years … Played for one year at the Outrigger Canoe Club and the EFC Beach Volleyball Team … Helped 'Iolani School to a third-place finish in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu … Secured a third-place finish at the USAV Pacific Northwest Qualifier in 2014 … Placed fourth in the first annual State High School Sand Volleyball Championships in 2013 … Assisted her team to a top-10 finish at the AAU West Coast Junior Olympic Beach Championships in 2014 … Named first team All-League and to the All-State team … Won the Martin Luther King Pakela Tournament … Has been recognized for her academic achievements with the Top Scholar Award and six years on the Headmasters List … Named an AP Scholar, and a member of the National Latin Honors Society with the David P.
