Cambridge, Mass. – The Harvard women's volleyball team will play 11 matches at the Malkin Athletic Center in 2016 as part of the team's schedule released today by head coach Jennifer Weiss.
Harvard, coming off a second-straight Ivy League title and the program's first trip to the NCAA tournament, will play a total of 23 matches, including a 14-match Ivy League schedule. The Crimson will play 18 of its 23 matches on the Ivy League Digital Network.
"The Ivy League will be very competitive again this season, it is exciting to see that there is so much parity," Weiss commented. "Each Ivy League match is a close one and takes a lot of preparation. We will look to compete for a title and count on a routine of hard work in practice every day. We will also see a very competitive out-of-league schedule with Arizona State, Duke, Pepperdine, and Loyola Marymount. This will be a challenge which will only prepare us better for Ivy League play. With the discipline and experience from our upperclassmen, and our talented incoming freshmen class, we will create a strong foundation as we enter into the conference schedule."
The Crimson's campaign will begin with the Beantown Challenge (Sept. 2-3), a tournament featuring Siena, New Hampshire, Georgia, and Boston College. Harvard will be sharing home court advantage with BC, and will host Siena and Georgia.
Harvard will then head across the country, playing in the Baden Invitational hosted by Long Beach State and Loyola Marymout (Sept. 9-10). The women will get their first-ever look at Duke on Friday before taking on Loyola Marymount later in the evening, while facing a double-header against Arizona State and Pepperdine on Saturday.
The Crimson will remain on the road once it returns from the west coast, traveling to New Hampshire on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
The fifth-annual New England Challenge will be held Sept. 16-17 at the MAC, with Harvard hosting Boston College on Friday and Northeastern on Saturday. The Crimson picked up 3-1 victories over the Huskies of both UConn and Northeastern last year, but fell 3-2 to the Eagles.
The Crimson will begin a five-match road-series to open Ivy League play against Dartmouth (Sept. 23), Princeton (Sept. 30), Penn (Oct. 1), Brown (Oct. 7), and Yale (Oct. 8).
Harvard returns home the following weekend to play Columbia (Oct. 14), Cornell (Oct. 15), Dartmouth (Oct. 21), Penn (Oct. 28), and Princeton (Oct. 29). The Crimson has gone 31-11 against the Ancient Eight over the last three seasons, while boasting an 18-3 record on its home court.
Harvard will make its final road trip to Cornell and Columbia the weekend of November 4-5.
Harvard will close out its regular season at home against Yale (Nov. 11) and Brown (Nov. 12).
