Women's Volleyball Reveals Class of 2023

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Looking forward to its fall campaign, Harvard women's volleyball head coach Jennifer Weiss has announced its incoming Class of 2023 today. The four-member class consists of: Grace Allen, Ava Rauser, Katie Vorhies and Ashley Wang.

The accomplished incoming first-years hail from four different states and add to a talented group of 12 returning letterwinners that went 11-12 overall and 6-8 in conference play during its 2018 campaign.

The Class of 2023 can be found below:

Grace Allen | Outside/Right Side Attacker | 5-11 | Windermere, Fla. | Lake Highland Prep
Three-year letterwinner in volleyball at Lake Highland Prep, captain in 2019… Three-year starter for OTVA, captain in 2017 …. Named to the FHSAA All-State Volleyball team in 2018 … Named to the FHSAA Academic All-State Volleyball team in 2017 and 2018 … Received first team All-District honors in 2018 … Named the Offensive Player of the Year in 2018 … Named to the Orlando Sentinel All-Area second team in 2018 … Led varsity team in attack percentage and total kills in 2018 … Holds school record for kills in a single game with 25 … Received PrepVolleyball Sophomore 79 honorable mention honors in 2016 … Named an AAU Academic All-American from 2016-2018 … Named to the AVCA Volleyball Under Armor Watchlist in 2018 … Two-time Class 5A State runner up in 2016 and 2017 … Two-time Regional and District Champions in 2016 and 2017 … Placed third at AAU Nationals in 2016-17 …  Finished fifth at USAV Nationals in 2018 … National Merit Commended Student in 2018 … AP Scholar with Distinction in 2018 … Member of Cum Laude Society in 2019 … National Honors Society & National Latin Honors Society from 2017-2019 … President's List from 2015-19 … International Gold Medalist in Junior Gospel Singing and International Silver Medalist in Comedic Monologue at the World Championships of the Performing Arts (WCOPA) in 2016 … Editor-in-Chief for Newspaper/Literary Magazine awarded first place by American Scholastic Press Association from 2016-2019.

Coach Weiss on Grace: "Grace comes to us from a strong Florida program at both her school and her club team.  She has played at a high level for two years and has the ability to hit at either pin for Harvard.  She will thrive in the Harvard community on and off the court and I look forward to her arrival."

Coach Weiss on Ava: "Ava has been a two sport all-state athlete in Ohio. She has been a middle blocker for a top club team and has competed in track and field. She has great lateral speed and puts up a solid block. She will be an immediate impact to our overall offensive and defensive systems.  She will bring experience and athletic ability into our gym and it will be great to work with her on a daily basis. Ava has the potential to develop into a top middle blocker in the Ivy League."

Coach Weiss on Katie: "Katie is an natural athlete and dynamic jumper. She has developed a number of shots to her game and has a great touch on the ball. She has played on one of the top club teams in Missouri and will bring strong competition to our gym. She continues to work out and has increased her vertical and shows determination and commitment to getting better every day. She will do very well in the Harvard community and in the classroom."

Coach Weiss on Ashley: "Ashley will bring power and versatility to our program in the fall. She has played on the strongest club team in the area and actually helped bring them to the next level of volleyball. They competed at the highest level at the junior nationals which is a first for Massachusetts volleyball. I am excited to work with Ashley and watch her grow in all areas of her game.  She can hit the sharp angles from the right side and puts up a strong block.  This past club season she set for her team and added so much to her overall game."
