PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The No. 16 Harvard women's water polo team fell in its final contest of the season to No. 21 Bucknell, 11-9. For its fifth time in program history, the team collected more than 20 wins in a season with a 21-8 overall mark. Additionally, Kristen Hong was named CWPA All-tournament first team while Mathilde Ribordy and Grace Thawley collected second-team honors.
First-year Grace Thawley wasted no time putting the Crimson on the scoreboard when she found the back of the net on a two-meter scoring drive. Bucknell quickly countered with three goals for a 3-2 lead. Thawley tallied another score in the opening portion of the second period, capitalizeing on the five-meter penalty shot, but Bucknell held onto its lead to exit the period, 4-3.
Harvard opened up the second half with an outside attack from Olivia Price, for her second tally of the day and was shortly followed by a Lana Gorlinski six-on-five drive from the post. The Bison and the Crimson continued to trade goals for the remainder of the period and headed into the final eight minutes of the season tied at seven. Despite recording an additional two goals from Hong and Thawley, it was not enough to counter the Bison's four and fell, 11-7.
- Grace Thawley and Olivia Price collected three goals and an assist each, while Thawley also picked up a steal.
- Kristen Hong completed her season with team-leading 69 goals, 38 assists, 15 steals, 24 designated kick outs and four blocks.
- The Crimson collected its first season with 20 or more wins since 2016.
The Crimson plans to celebrate its successful season, tomorrow, Monday, April 29 during the end of the year banquet.
