CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The Harvard men's water
polo team dropped a pair of games on the first day of the Claremont
Convergence, falling to Chapman and Pomona-Pitzer Friday.
In the first game of the day, Nikhil Balaraman made 11
saves in net for the Crimson, while Jeff Lee scored twice, and Dan
Furman and Bret Voith each chipped in with a goal. However,
the Crimson fell to Chapman by a 9-4 margin.
Against Pomona-Pitzer, Harvard trailed by six goals in the fourth
quarter, but battled back late in the game before falling,
11-8. Egen Atkinson recorded a hat trick, while Alex Thompson
scored once, assisted on three other tallies and made one
steal. Freshman Antone Martinho netted the first goal of his
career and made one steal, while Evan Zepfel contributed a goal and
an assist. Also scoring for Harvard were Dan Furman and Jeff
Lee who added a goal apiece, while John Kolb and Bret Voith dished
out one assist each.
The Crimson (4-10) will take on No. 14 Concordia and No. 20 Cal
Baptist Saturday.
