CAMDEN, N.J.-The Radcliffe heavyweight varsity
four placed fifth in its semifinal Saturday at the NCAA
Championships on the Cooper River.
The boat will compete in Sunday's 10 a.m. petite final against
Brown, Washington, Ohio State, Michigan and Southern California.
The Radcliffe varsity and second varsity eights will race in their
respective third-level finals against Wisconsin, Dartmouth and
Oregon State.
The Black and White varsity four outlasted Brown for fifth
place, finishing 0.94 seconds ahead of the Bears in 7:30.75.
Radcliffe stood fourth after 500 meters, but Virginia came back to
pass the Black and White and get by Washington for the third berth
in the grand final. First-place Clemson and runner-up Yale also
advanced to the top final.
Sophomore Tara Larson, freshman Katie O'Hanlon, junior Michaela
Pewarski, senior Katherine Williams and sophomore coxswain Rachel
Rauh make up the Radcliffe varsity four.
Virginia and California won their respective varsity eight
semifinals, while Stanford, Brown, Princeton and Yale also
qualified for the grand final in that event. Cal, Stanford,
Virginia and Yale placed boats in each of the three grand finals.
