SOUTH GRAND PRARIE, Texas – The Harvard
wrestling team fell to No. 10 Oklahoma, 44-6, and No. 22 Arizona
State, 39-12, and Utah Valley, 40-10, at the Lone Star Duals. No. 7
Louis Caputo led the Crimson with three wins on the day, moving him
into third on the all-time wins list at Harvard. No. 1 J.P.
O'Connor won his only contest of the day to move into a tie
for second in all-time victories at Harvard.
Against the Sun Devils, J.P O'Connor defeated Ted Edwards,
6-5, at 157 pounds and Caputo topped Jake Meredith, 7-2, at 184
pounds. Sophomore Sean Murphy added points to the scoreboard when
he accepted a forfeit at 197 pounds. O'Connor's win was
his 18th of the season and 115th overall. He is tied with Dustin
DeNunzio '99 in the Harvard annals and is 17 wins behind the
all-time leader Jesse Jantzen '04. Caputo, who is now 11-2 on
the season, has 114 career wins to his credit and stands third
all-time.
Freshman Steven Keith upset No. 13 Jarrod Patterson at 125 pounds
with a 7-4 victory. Keith, who is 11-5 on the season, nearly beat
No. 15 Ben Kjar of Utah Valley before falling, 12-8. Sophomore
Spencer DeSena pinned Dylan Stadel of Utah Valley in 6:13 for his
third win of the season and his first collegiate win by fall.
After a week lay-off, the Crimson returns to action Jan. 30 at the
Malkin Athletic Center. Harvard will take on Boston University at 1
p.m. for the Charles Cup and will face Army at 5 p.m.
