NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The Harvard
wrestling team split its two dual matches Friday evening at
Rutgers' College Ave. Gymnasium. The Crimson defeated
Franklin & Marshall, 35-21 and fell to Rutgers, 29-14.
The Crimson won five matches against the Diplomats, including
taking two by fall and another by technical fall. Harvard picked up
four wins against the host Scarlett Knights and scored bonus points
in two contests.
Four Harvard grapplers picked up two wins on the night, including
No. 1 J.P. O'Connor at 157 pounds and No. 10 Louis Caputo at
184 pounds, who contributed two wins by bonus points.
O'Connor pinned F&M's Matthew Gittleman in 2:30 and
then handed Daryl Cocozzo of Rutgers a 3-2 loss to improve to 16-0
in the season. Caputo posted a 16-0 victory against Matt Latessa of
F&M and topped Rutgers' Michael Cucinotta, 10-1.
Freshmen Anthony Buxton and Steven Keith also picked up two wins
tonight. Buxton got the Crimson going against the Diplomats with a
pin of Matt Murray in 2:00. He followed his performance with an
11-0 major decision over Luke Rigoglisio of Rutgers. Keith won his
first match by forfeit and then pulled out a 6-3 win over Vincent
Dellefave.
The Crimson returns to the mat tomorrow at Hofstra. The first match
is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
