CAMBRIDGE Mass. – The three-day Harvard
Invitational completed play Sunday afternoon. The Crimson won a
total of 15 matches during the round robin tournament.
Hideko Tachibana earned a victory in singles play each day of
competition. On Friday, Tachibana took down Emily Harman from
Syracuse, 6-3, 7-6(4). Saturday, going against Air Force's
Christen Monreal, Tachibana won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. On the
court today against Ivy League foe Bianca Aboubakare from Brown,
Tachibana captured a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Tachibana also won a doubles
match on Friday against Air Force, pairing with Alexandra
Lehman.
Lehman would grab two more doubles victories over the weekend.
Teaming with Amanda Black, the pair beat Simone Kalhorn and Eva
Raszkiewicz from Syracuse, 9-7, and Geraldine Leong and Elizabeth
Kaufman from Cornell, 8-2.
Hannah Morrill notched three wins for the Crimson, two singles
and one doubles win with teammate Samantha Rosekrans. After
defeating Megumi Voight from Air Force, 6-1, 6-2, on Saturday,
Morrill downed Cate Stewart from Brown, 6-3, 7-5, on Sunday.
Rosekrans also paired with Samantha Gridley in doubles on Friday
defeating Air Force's Voight and Sarah Cassman, 8-3.
Gridley added two victories in singles play for Harvard. On
Friday, Gridley recovered after losing the second set to Maddie
Kobelt from Syracuse and earned the win, 6-4, 1-6, 10-4. Going
against Cassman on Saturday, Gridley won in straight sets, 6-4,
6-2.
The Harvard Invitational concludes fall competition for the
Crimson. Harvard will open up spring play Jan. 22 when they host
Boston University.
