CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The women's tennis team was upset by
Yale, 6-1, in the semifinal round of the ECAC Indoor Tennis
Championships Saturday evening at the Murr Center Tennis
Courts.
Yale captured the doubles point after winning two of the three
doubles matches. In No. 1 doubles, sophomore Holly Cao and junior
Samantha Rosekrans fell to Vicky Brook and Lindsay Clark, 8-2.
Freshman Sophie Chang and sophomore Samantha Gridley fell 8-3 in
the No. 3 doubles match to Stevi Petrelli and Sarah Lederhandler.
Hideko Tachibana and Kristin Norton defeated Yale's Jessica Rhee
and Stephanie Kent, 8-4, in the No. 2 doubles.
Harvard's lone point of the evening came in the No. 1 singles
match, as Cao defeated Kent, 6-2, 6-4. Tachibana fell to
Brook, 6-4, 6-3, in the No. 2 matchup. Norton cruised in the first
set of the No. 3 match against Rhee, winning 6-0, but was unable to
maintain momentum, falling in the next two sets, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. At
No. 4, Rosekrans lost to Petrelli, 6-3, 4-6, (10-6). Chang picked
up the first set in the No. 5 match, 6-2, but lost the following
two sets, 6-3, 6-2, for Epstein to pick up the win. Playing in the
No. 6 match, freshman Alexandra Lehman fell to Clark 7-6, 6-4
(10-6).
Harvard will face Princeton in a consolation match Sunday at 9:20
a.m.
