NEW HAVEN, Conn.- The Harvard men's
tennis team cruised to a 5-2 victory over Brown (4-4) in the
quarterfinals of the ECAC Championships. With the win, the
second-seeded Crimson advances to the semifinals of the
tournament.
Harvard (2-2) swept all three doubles matches to earn the coveted
doubles point to jump out to an early 1-0 lead heading into singles
action. The tandem of junior Aba Omodele-Lucien and freshman
Christo Schultz handled the Bear's top pair, winning 8-1.
Sophomore Alistair Felton and rookie Andy Nguyen earned an 8-3 win
at the No. 2 position and junior Alexei Chijoff-Evans and freshman
Joshua Tchan grabbed an 8-4 victory at the No. 3 slot to complete
the sweep.
The Crimson captured four singles matches in straight sets to seal
its second straight dual win of the season. Chijoff-Evans posted a
6-2, 6-3 victory at the No. 1 spot. Nguyen claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win
at the No. 5 position and senior captain Michael Hayes easily
handled his opponent, winning in decisive fashion, 6-1, 6-2.
Harvard will take on Princeton, the sixth-seed in the tournament,
in the semifinals tomorrow at 12:30 p.m.
