SAN DIEGO—Both of the Radcliffe
heavyweight crew's entries in the San Diego Crew Classic
advanced to their respective finals on the opening day of racing
Saturday on Mission Bay.
The No. 14 Black and White varsity eight placed third in its
heat, edging UC Davis for a spot in Sunday's final for the
Jessop-Whittier Cup, to be held at 9:15 a.m. Pacific. In the second
varsity competition for the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy,
Radcliffe cruised to a second-place finish and will race in the
final at 9:40 a.m. Sunday.
No. 10 Southern California won Radcliffe's varsity eight
heat, while the other three teams battled for the two remaining
spots in the final. All three were separated by less than one
second, as Grand Valley crossed the finish line in 6:49.04,
followed by the Black and White in 6:59.45 and UC Davis in 6:59.52.

and a comfortable 11 seconds ahead of Tulsa. San Diego State and
Loyola also competed in Radcliffe's heat. The Black and White
