PROVIDENCE, RI – Danielle
Tetreault led all goal scorers with five goals to lead the
Harvard women's lacrosse team (5-4, 3-1) to a 12-9 come-from-behind
win over Brown (5-5, 1-3) Friday evening at Stevenson Field.
Tetreault, who was 3-for-3 on free positions, was one of four
goal scores for the Crimson. Jennifer
VanderMeulen scored a hat trick to total a team leading 28
games this season. Melanie Baskind
and Nina Kucharczyk each tallied two goals. VanderMeulen won four
draw controls, while Tyler Petropulos
had three ground balls and caused two turnovers.Mariah Pewarski
caused two of Brown's 14 turnovers.
Teteault scored Harvard's first two tallies, but that was all
the Crimson could muster in the first 27 minutes of the game as the
Bears cruised out to a 7-2 lead. Harvard put together three
consecutive goals in one minute and 20 seconds to pull within 7-5
at the half.
The Crimson fired off seven straight scores to take an 11-7 lead
with eight minutes to play. Tetreault put in the first two goals,
both unassisted tallies in the first six minutes of the second
session. Kucharczyk put away a free position shot before Baskind
sandwiched two goals between VanderMeulen to take the lead. Brown
scored two goals before the end of the game, but the Crimson's lead
was too great.
Clark made seven saves in the cage for the Crimson.
Harvard plays a non-conference game at Holy Cross Wednesday
night at 7 p.m.
