CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Radcliffe heavyweight team competed at the 50th-annual Head of the Charles Regatta over the weekend.
Stroked by senior Elizabeth Fitzhenry, the Radcliffe eight notched an eighth-place finish in the women's championship event. The Black and White stopped the clock at 16:56.69. An always competitive field, Radcliffe finished fifth among U.S. collegiate squads.
Cambridge, coxed by Erin Driscoll '12, won the event in 15:44.79. The "Great 8+" comprised of the top single scullers from around the world, was followed by USRowing, Virginia, Oxford (stroked by Caryn Davies '03) and Michigan rounding out the top five. Coxed by senior Jenny Wong, the boat held Fitzhenry, sophomore Kelsey Barolak, junior Lauren Tracey, sophomore Emily Johansen, junior Frederika Archibald, junior Mary Carmack, sophomore Abigail Parker and freshman Sofia Donnecke.
The Radcliffe 2V placed 23rd among the 34 teams, stroked by senior Eliza Flint. The Black and White finished the course in 17:38.48.
Clocking a time of 16:57.12, Radcliffe finished fourth in the women's club eights event. Stroked by sophomore Maeve Hoffstot and coxed by senior McKenna Kardish, the Black and White hit the halfway mark at 9:09.19. Brown won the competition with a time of 16:09.90.
Sophomore Molly Moore won the mixed LTA fours event Sunday, rowing the bow seat of the USA Para-Rowing National Team's entry. The crew defeated the Australian entry, Balmain Rowing Club.
The Radcliffe heavyweight and lightweight alumnae, stroked by Laura Nicholson '09, medaled with a fifth-place finish after stopping the clock at 17:12.24.
