Lee Advances to Semifinals at USTA/ITA Regional

Li, Jang-Milsten advance to quarterfinals in doubles play (Zack Williamson).

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Harvard women's tennis sophomore June Lee tore through the bracket at the USTA/ITA Regional tournament at Yale, advancing to the semifinal round after winning her first four matches.

Lee defeated opponents from Marist, Boston University, Dartmouth and Columbia before falling in a very tight match to Boston College senior Jessica Wacnik, 4-6, 6-4, 4-6. Lee and Wacnik were level at four games apiece in the third set, but Wacnik was able to prevail in the last two games by a slim margin.

Freshman Ellen Jang-Milsten won her first two matches of the tournament, posting a 2-1 singles record. She defeated opponents from UMass and Cornell in straight sets, but lost to Yale's Hanna Yu in the round of 32.

Nikki Kallenberg defeated her round of 64 opponent from Cornell, 6-3, 6-4, but could not make it past Syracuse's Valeria Salazar in the round of 32. Annika Ringblom and Monica Lin also competed in the singles main draw, but dropped opening round matches.

In doubles play, Jang-Milsten teamed with senior captain Sylvia Li, and advanced to the quarterfinals with three-straight victories. The duo defeated pairs from BU, Penn and Stony Brook before falling, 8-4, in the quarters to a team from Yale.

Lin and Ringblom opened doubles play with a victory over a tandem from Rutgers, but were defeated by a duo from Syracuse in the round of 32. Lee and Kallenberg were ousted by a BC pair in the first round.

The Crimson concludes its fall season by hosting the Harvard Invitational November 7-9. The tournament will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
