Women's Tennis Finishes Fall Season At Its Three-Day Round Robin Invitational

The Crimson's He led the team by posting a 5-0 record at the Harvard Invitational going undefeated (Zach Williamson). 

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's tennis team finished its fall season competing in its own Harvard Invitational with a 13-12 overall record in the Murr Center this weekend. 

Day 1: 

Freshman Erica Oosterhout took a strong lead in the first day of play as she went undefeated in singles and doubles play.  Oosterhout defeated Lolade Ogungbesan in sets of 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(8) while also pairing with June Lee as they blew past Ogungbesan and Amber Washington, 8-2.

Freshman Sabrina Xiong and senior captain Amy He sailed through their doubles play against Carina Ma and Natsumi Okamato, 8-3, while Danielle Mirda and Isabel Jasper were unable to pick up a win against Audrey Ann Blakely and Gabriela Rezende, 8-3.

He fought back after a tight matchup against Rezende 6-0, 6-7(3), 6-2. The Panthers' Callie Frey defeated Xiong in sets of, 6-2 and 6-4, while teammate Ma also breezed by Mirda, 6-0, 6-0. Jasper recorded her first win of the tournament after beating Okamoto, 6-3, 6-3, while Blakely defeated the Crimson Lee similarly in two sets, 6-3, 6-3.

Day 2:

The Crimson battled in doubles play losing both matches against Syracuse. Oosterhout and Lee lost to Gabriela Knutson and Olivia Messineo, 8-6, while Xiong and Jasper fell to Maria Tritou and Nicole Mitchell, 8-5.

Harvard bounced back in singles matches after tough losses, winning three out of its five singles games. Lee recorded her first victory in the round robin against Tritou with sets of 2-6, 7-5, 6-4. He, sitting as the only undefeated Crimson, posted a triumph against Libi Mesh, 6-4, 6-1, while teammate Mirda picked up her first win over Messineo with sets of 7-6(2), 6-0. The Orange's Mitchell beat Jasper, 6-1, 6-1, as her teammate Knutson battled Oosterhout, 7-6(5), 6-3, and took the win.

Day 3:

The pair of He and Mirda defeated Boston University's pair of Remi Ramos and Kim McCallum, 8-6, while Oosterhout and Lee followed suit by beating Johanna Hyoty and Sabrina Faybyshev 8-5. The Terriers' Iryna Kostirko and Barbara Rodriguez surpassed Xiong and Jasper with a score of 8-1.

In singles play, Harvard and Boston University split the six matches. Oosterhout beat Hyoty in three sets with scores of 6-1, 6-7(2), 6-1, while teammate He posted a victory against Faybyshev, 6-4, 6-2. Jasper fought a tight match against McCallum, 7-6(0), 4-6, 6-3. The Terrier's Rodriguez came out on top tallying a victory in three sets versus Xiong, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Teammates Ramos and Kostirko recorded their own score as they beat Mirda, 6-1, 6-0, and Lee, 6-1, 6-4, respectively.

Harvard takes a break after its fall season and will return to play with a home contest against Drake at 4 p.m. on Jan. 22.
