Colin Chiapello scored three goals in the third quarter against Bucknell (Z. Williamson).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's water polo team dropped its first two games of the Brown Invite, falling 10-8 to No. 19 Bucknell in its first game, and lost 21-5 to No. 5 Stanford in the nightcap.
Noah Harrison and Colin Chiapello each found the back of the net three times to pace the Crimson attack against Bucknell.
In the opening quarter, Harvard grabbed a 3-2 lead as Harrison made his return to the pool after missing the 2014 season due to injury, netting a pair of goals, while Dan Stevens added in another. Bucknell stormed back in the second quarter with three goals of its own to take a 5-4 lead. Harvard answered and tied the game 8-8 in the third quarter. Chiapello netted three goals and Joey Colton added in another. The Bison took the lead for good in the final quarter, scoring a pair and held on to defeat the Crimson by a final score of 10-8. Nick Bunn and Nathan Ondracek each picked up an assist in their collegiate debuts.
In the nightcap, Harvard fell 21-5 in its home opener against No. 4 Stanford. Harvard managed to score in each quarter, but couldn't stop the Stanford attack. Ben Zepfel, Colton and Harrison each netted first half goals. Grant Harvey and Grayson Judge each found the back of the net in the second half for their first collegiate goals.
Harrison was the Crimson's leading goal scorer of the day with four goals. Three different freshmen either scored a goal or assisted on one.
Harvard will head back to Providence tomorrow to close out the Brown Invite against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 2:15 p.m.
