No. 72 Women's Tennis Unable to Top No. 68 Portland After Late Comeback

Xiong fought back after the first set to pick up a win in the No. 5 spot (Zack Williamson).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 72 Harvard women's tennis team fell to No. 68 Portland despite winning three-straight singles points Saturday afternoon at the Murr Center.

The doubles pairing of Annika Ringblom and Sabrina Xiong in the No. 2 spot was the only Harvard duo to clinch a win. They defeated the Pilots' Maja Mladenovic and Emily Gould, 6-3. Portland won the other two doubles matches to win the overall point.

Ringblom blazed past Saroop Dhatt with set scores of 6-0 and 6-1 while teammate Amy He, in the No. 6 spot, won her match versus Tatiana Grigoryan, 6-1, 6-2. Xiong, playing in the No. 5 position, came back from a 2-6 first set and topped the Pilots' Jelena Lazarevic with scores of 6-2, 6-0.

The Crimson will host Boston University (Feb. 19), No. 75 Maryland (Feb. 20) and Marist (Feb. 20) at the Murr Center. All three matches will be broadcast on the Ivy League Digital Network.
