CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 17 Harvard-Radcliffe heavyweight crew split with No. 1 Brown and Dartmouth Saturday morning on the Charles River, pushing the Bears before falling and defeating the Big Green by open water.

Facing a quartering headwind, but relatively calm water for April, the Black and White kept pace with the top team in the land over the first 1000 meters. Brown began to outstroke Radcliffe after the bridge and edged out to a nine-second victory. Radcliffe finished 23 seconds ahead of the Big Green.

In the second varsity race, fell behind the Bears after the first 500, but was well ahead of the Big Green. Brown crossed in a blistering speed of 6:54.9, nearly 15 seconds ahead of the Black and White (7:09.2) and 32 seconds ahead of the Big Green.          

The Black and White also finished second in the second varsity four and third varsity eight events. Radcliffe took third in the varsity four.

Radcliffe's 3V and 4V boats posted wins over Dartmouth, falling to Brown, but crossing in 7:49.6 and 7:54.3, respectively.  

Radcliffe heads north to take on Cornell and Princeton at Cayuga Lake.
