Harvard earned its first 7's wins over Brown and Princeton (Harvard Rugby).
PRINCETON, N.J. - The Harvard women's rugby team claimed its first Ivy 7's Championship Saturday at Rickerson Field, overpowering Brown, 17-5, in the Cup Final to cap an undefeated day at 4-0.
With the win, Harvard has qualified for the USA Rugby College 7's National Championships May 27-29 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Harvard 29, Yale 0
Harvard jumped on the board first, taking a 12-0 advantage at the break. The Crimson's attack cotinued to outmatch the Bulldogs as Caitlin Weigel downed back-to-back tries to open the second half and Harvard cruised to the win in its opener.
Harvard 12, Brown 5
Brown's Kiki Morgan found the end zone to give the Bears the upper hand at 5-0 before Weigel scored off a line-out to put Harvard ahead, 7-5, at the end of the opening frame. Aniebiet Abasi furthered the lead, working off space created by Weigel to send Harvard to the Cup Semis.
Harvard 15, Princeton 5
For the third time on the day, Weigel downed Harvard's opening try, scoring off a feed from Claire Collins to put the Crimson ahead, 5-0, right before the half. Collins ignited Harvard's offense once again, feeding Maya Learned, who dished it to Dalton Youngblood for the Crimson's second try of the contest. Princeton made it a one-try game midway through the second, but Harvard pushed its lead back to double-digits to advance to the Cup Final.
Harvard 17, Brown 5
Learned dished to Youngblood, who powered her way into the end zone, putting Harvard ahead, 7-0, before Brown's Morgan made it a 7-5 game right before the half. Collins and Abasi powered their way to tries in the second half as Harvard held on for its Cup Final title.
Harvard will return to the pitch at the Varsity 7's Championships at Army April 30.
