WORCESTER, Mass. – The No. 18 Harvard-Radcliffe heavyweight crew team swept the Eastern Sprints for the second-straight year, winning gold in all five events. This marks the eighth time the Black and White has taken home gold at the Sprints.
The varsity eight won its heat in the morning by open water to advance to the grand final. In the main event, the Black and White got off to a strong start and held off a charging Northeastern crew to clock in at 7:02.400 and take home gold.
The second varsity also won its heat by open water and finished three seconds ahead of Northeastern. Radcliffe dropped the flag at 7:09.003 ahead of the Huskies (7:12.756) and Dartmouth (7:22.227).
The varsity four A boat stopped the clock 10 seconds ahead of Bucknell and Northeastern. In a close race for second, the Bison finished in 7:56.092, followed by the Huskies with a time of 7:56.847.
The varsity four B boat won both its heat and the grand final by 10 seconds. In its main event, the Black and White clocked a time of 8:15.249, in front of Columbia (8:25.700) and Bucknell (8:35.787).
After coming in 1-2 in its heat, the Radcliffe third and fourth varsities advanced to the grand final of the 3V event. The Black and White 3V came in a length ahead of Bucknell, stopping the clock in 7:23.008. BC and Rutgers finished third and fourth, respectively, before the Radcliffe 4V dropped the flag in 7:47.988. The Black and White nearly clipped the Scarlet Knights, crossing 2.3 seconds off their pace.
Radcliffe will have a weekend off from competition before heading to the Ivy League Championships May 15.
