PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 18 Harvard-Radcliffe heavyweight crew team finished fourth in the team standings at the 2016 Ivy League Championships, held Sunday morning on Lake Carnegie.
The Black and White finished with 50 points, behind Brown (83), Princeton (80) and Yale (65). Princeton earned the automatic berth to the NCAA Championships with a five-second win over the No. 1 team in the nation.
The varsity eight won the petite final with a time of 6:46.239. The second varsity and varsity four each took fourth in their respective grand finals.
The top boat, stroked by Sofia Donnecke, was inched out by Penn in its heat. The Quakers got off to a hot start, holding off Brown and Radcliffe, before the Bears walked over the boat. The Black and White could not overcome the slow start, falling by three seconds to Penn.
In the petite final, Radcliffe and Columbia pushed off the line and the Lions seemed to be giving the Black and White all it could handle. The crew pushed through Columbia after the 1,000-meter mark to walk away with an open water win.
The second varsity, stroked by Emma Nealis, posted a second-place finish in its heat to advance to the grand final with a time of 6:42.618.
