CAMBRIDGE, Mass.– The Harvard women's tennis team picked up two wins in Sunday's doubleheader against Fordham and Marist at the Murr Center Courts. The Crimson started the day with a 7-0 win over Fordham, followed by a 5-2 victory against Marist in the afternoon session.
In the morning matchup against Fordham, Harvard began with a strong doubles performance from the duo of senior Erica Oosterhout and junior Natasha Gonzalez, who defeated Maia Balce and Gianna Insogna, 6-0. First-year Rachel Lim and junior Jenna Friedel earned the second doubles victory with a 6-3 victory against Arina Taluyenko and Tatiana Grigoryan.
In singles play, Oosterhout came from behind to defeat Arina Taluyenko 2-6, 6-3, 1-0(10) to win as the team's No. 1. Friedel served as the team's No. 2, defeating Maia Balce 6-4, 6-3. Lim rounded out the top-three with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Genevieve Quenville.
Against Marist, the doubles pairing of senior Isabel Jasper and first-year Chelsea Williams impressed with a 6-0 victory against Madison Price and Chloe Lant. Friedel and Lim earned their second doubles wins of the day together, defeating Samantha Galu and Julia Gabay, 6-1.
Junior Irene Lu served as the team's No. 1, defeating Julia Gabay 6-1, 6-2. First-year Chelsea Williams followed her strong doubles performance with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Madison Price. Sophomore Anna Li rounded out Harvard's top-three with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Sophia Moeller.
Harvard Highlights:
- Harvard won in its first matchup in program history against Fordham.
- The Crimson extend its all-time series record to 3-0 against Marist.
- Gonzalez remains untouched in doubles and singles play, improving to 6-0 this season.
- Friedel has yet to be beaten with a record of 5-0 so far this season in singles and doubles play.
- Lim has played strong tennis in doubles play, winning in all three of her doubles matches this season.
