PRINCETON, N.J. – The Harvard Women's Tennis team was represented in the ITA Northeast Super Regionals this weekend by four athletes who qualified two weekends ago at the ITA Northeast Regionals in West Point, N.Y.
First-year
Maxi Duncan advanced to the Round of 16 in the singles draw with a great performance over Princeton's Stephanie Schrage, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
In the doubles draw, Duncan paired up with teammate and sophomore
Iveta Daujotaite. The duo prevailed to be one of the final eight doubles teams remaining, besting Buffalo's Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou and Pia Schwartz, 6-2, 6-3.
Daujotaite faced-off with top-seeded Victoria Hu of Princeton, but was unable to advance to the second round, ultimately falling in singles, 6-3, 6-3.
First-years
Holly Fischer and
Rachel Arbitman battled in their first Super Regionals appearance, but both came up short, bowing out to Cornell's Lan Mi (6-1, 6-2) and Syracuse's Viktoriya Kanapataskaya (4-6, 7-5, 6-2), respectively.
Duncan will take on Yale's Chelsea Kung in the second round of the singles draw tomorrow.
In the doubles draw, Duncan and Daujotaite are set to face Penn's Marija Curnic and Iuliia Bryzgalova for an opportunity to advance to the final four.
The tournament is set to get back in action at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow, Oct. 16, in Princeton, N.J.
