WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Harvard women's tennis program won nine of 10 singles matches on the second day of the ITA Northeast Regional Championship, resulting in four individuals advancing to the Round of 16.
The Crimson had all five of its players collect straight-sets victories in the Round of 64.
Rachel Arbitman,
Rachel Lim and
Holly Fischer all posted identical 6-3, 6-0 decisions against Emilie Haakansson (St. John's), Tiara Higuchi (Rhode Island) and Willa Bay Breunich (St. John's), respectively.
Iveta Daujotaite was a 6-2, 6-2 winner against URI's Nadia Rajan, with
Angel You downing Bryant's Olivia Rondini, 6-4, 6-2.
Harvard was tested in the next round, but prevailed in four of its matches. Arbitman defeated fellow Ivy Leaguer Clarine Lerby of Columbia, 7-5, 6-4, with Fischer and You replicating the effort. Fischer emerged with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Dartmouth's Chloe Yoo, while You secured a 6-1, 7-5 victory against the Big Green's Ashley Hess.
In two Round-of-32 matches vs. Boston College, the Crimson went 1-1. Daujotaite upended Laura Lopez, 6-4, 2-6, 12-10, but Lim suffered a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Natasha Irani.
Arbitman, Fischer, Daujotaite and You will all be in action on Sunday as they look to advance in the singles bracket. You and Lim, meanwhile, will team up to face Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul of UMass in the Round of 16.
