Women's Tennis Shines on Opening Day of Harvard Fall Classic vs. Providence

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard Women's Tennis took the court for the first time in the fall 2021 season this afternoon, facing off against Providence College on the Beren Tennis Center outdoor courts. The Crimson posted a great showing in its first action since March of 2020, and after posting a 7-2 record in '20 before the season was canceled, Harvard picked up right where it left off by winning five of six singles matches and two of three in doubles.

Harvard received an impressive doubles performance in Flight A from junior Demi Snyder (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and sophomore Sany Gawande (Bradenton, Fla.) as the duo posted an 8-4 decision over their Friar counterparts. Senior co-captain Chelsea Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Lauryn Wu (McLean, Va.), meanwhile, were equally impressive as they earned an 8-3 decision.

In the singles matches, it was more of the same for Harvard, winning three of four in Flight A and going a perfect two for two in Flight B.

In Flight B, Snyder won in dominating fashion, 6-0, 6-2, to start her singles campaign out on the right foot. Junior Kayla Leschly (Weston, Mass.) won in two sets by a score of 6-1, 6-4  for a fresh start to her junior season in Flight A.

Williams continued her success from previous years with the Crimson by posting a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Providence's Vannelie Melendez. Wu, meanwhile, built off of her doubles victory by adding a two-set victory, 6-3, 6-2, over Morgan Warner.
