PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Harvard women's soccer (8-1-3, 2-0-2 Ivy) remained unbeaten in conference play today after battling to a hard-fought tie at Brown (8-2-2, 3-0-1 Ivy). The Crimson was able to get the result after a late game-tying goal from
Ainsley Ahmadian in the 75th minute of action.
The Crimson goalkeeper,
Anna Karpenko, made four saves to backstop a great defensive effort from her team. The backline of
Jade Rose,
Smith Hunter,
Lara Schenk and
Taylor Fasnacht all helped hold Brown to only eight shot attempts this afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brown recorded the first shot on goal in the contest, but the attempt was saved by Anna Karpenko in the fourth minute
- After a couple of Crimson shot attempts were blocked, Karpenko made another save in the 16th minute to keep the game scoreless
- The Bears scored the first goal of the game in the 21st minute
- Harvard countered with offensive pressure and were able to get two shots on goal, one by Hannah Bebar and the other by Smith Hunter, in the following minutes
- The two sides battled for the remainder of the half, trading possessions before time expired
- Shots were 5-4 in favor of Harvard at the break
- Karpenko stopped another Brown shot early in the second half to keep the team within reach
- Hollyn Torres and Jade Rose each recorded shot attempts early in the half, but had them blocked
- Hannah Griffin put back-to-back shots on goal midway through the half, but had them both stopped by the Brown keeper
- Harvard continued the attack and found the equalizer in the 75th minute off the foot of Ainsley Ahmadian that was set up by Hannah Bebar
- Harvard continued to control possession for a majority of the remainder of the match, keeping the ball in the Brown zone
- Aslaug Gunnlaugsdottir and Bebar both had shots on goal in the final 10 minutes that were saved
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Ainsley Ahmadian is now tied for the team-lead in goals with six
- Hannah Bebar recorded her team-leading 19th point of the season with the assist on Ahmadian's goal
- Bebar also led the team in shot attempts today with six and two of those being on goal
- She now has recorded a point in 10 of 12 games this season
- Rose, Hasbo, Schenk, Bebar and Hirst all played the full 90 minutes for Harvard
- Anna Karpenko made four saves in the draw
- The Crimson led in shots, shots on goal and corners
- Harvard outshot Brown 13-4 in the second half
- The team remains unbeaten in Ivy League play with the result and now sits at 2-0-2 in the conference
