Box Score 2 ORLANDO, Fla. – The Harvard women's tennis team (6-6) started its double-header on Tuesday with a 4-0 loss to ETSU (10-6), before bouncing back with a 4-2 win over Navy (14-2).
Beginning the day, the Crimson took on the Bucs of ETSU at 8 a.m., dropping the doubles point with losses at both the first and third position to give the Bucs the early lead.
In the singles competitions,
Angel You and
Amy Huang fell at the second and sixth positions and the Crimson trailed 3-0.
Rachel Lim fought to a tiebreak in the first set against ETSU's Daniela Rivera at No. 5 but was unable to prevail, providing the clinching point and the 4-0 result for the Bucs.
Harvard moved on to the second match of the double-header at 3 p.m., against Navy.
In the doubles competitions, the Crimson were defeated at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to give the Midshipmen the early point. The duo of
Angel You and
Iveta Daujotaite were in a tiebreak at the first position, but the match went unfinished.
After dropping the doubles point, the Crimson needed four wins in the six singles competitions.
Sany Gawande started things off for Harvard with a swift 6-0, 6-3 victory over Stella Ribaudo of Navy at No. 5.
After dropping the point at No. 4,
Iveta Daujotaite bounced back for the Crimson with a hard-fought win over Navy's Casey Accola, 6-3, 7-5.
With the match tied 2-2,
Maxi Duncan battled to a third set tie break triumph over Emily Tannenbaum of the Midshipmen at the second position (6-4, 3-6, 10-8) to push the Crimson within a point of the win.
The clinching point for Harvard came from
Angel You at No. 3 singles. The first-year took down Kacey Moore of Navy in the third set tiebreak to cement the 4-2 result for the Crimson, 6-1, 5-7, 10-4.
Harvard Highlights
- This was the first win of the season for the Crimson after dropping the doubles point to start.
- The Crimson snapped a five-match losing skid in the win over Navy.
- Harvard ended Navy's seven-match win streak in the victory.
