No. 75 Women’s Tennis Upsets No. 69 Brigham Young, 4-2

ORLANDO – The 75th-ranked Harvard women's tennis team upset No. 69 Brigham Young, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus. The Crimson's second win in its last three outings moved it to 7-7 on the season, while the Cougars dropped to 6-10.

Harvard found itself trailing early after coming up short in two of three doubles matches to fall behind 1-0 as the day's festivities moved to singles action.

The one-on-one action proved fruitful for the Crimson as it claimed four of five contests to capture the necessary four points en route to the win.

Maxi Duncan secured a victory at the No. 2 spot, going the full three sets with Anastasia Abramyan. The first-year won the first set, 6-3, lost the second by an identical score, and then breezed in the third, winning 6-1.

Rachel Lim and Sany Gawande did not experience much resistance in their matches at Nos. 5-6, respectively. Lim was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Helen Jiao, while Gawande pocketed a 6-1, 6-4 decision vs. Kara Lin.

The clinching point, meanwhile, came from co-captain Rachel Eason at No. 4. The senior from Union City, Calif., took the first set against Emilee Astle, 6-1, before coming up short, 4-6, in the second frame. Then with the match on the line, both individually and for the team, Eason emerged with a 6-4 triumph in the third set to secure the win and the deciding point to give Harvard its first victory over a nationally ranked opponent since April 2, 2017, when it took down No. 44 Dartmouth, 4-3.

Harvard returns to action on March 26, when it plays host to in-state foe Massachusetts. The non-conference match is set for a 1 p.m. ET start.
