CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's soccer (5-0, 0-0 Ivy) remained unbeaten on Thursday night when it defeated the Long Beach State Beach, 2-0 on Jordan Field. The Crimson got a pair of goals from
Hannah Bebar, who extended her point streak to five games. The Crimson defense was stout in fron of goalkeepr
Hannah Gardner (two saves), allowing the Beach to fire off only four shots in the full 90 minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson and the Beach battled to open the action, trading defensive stops until the Crimson was able to break the tie just 7' into the tilt.
Ainsley Ahmadian and
Hannah Bebar found a scoring connection once again, this time the other way around, as Bebar netted her second goal of the season off the cross from Ahmadian.
Harvard continued the offensive rush for the remainder of the first half. Bebar had another scoring chance at 14' and 27' and
Taylor Fasnacht had another at 35'. At the end of the first half, the score would read 1-0 in favor of the Crimson.
Harvard's offensive rush kept coming to open up the second frame. Fasnacht had another good look on goal just 35 seconds into the half, but was turned aside. Ahmadian and
Sophie Hirst put shots on net just a few minutes later, but once again the Beach fought off the Crimson attempts.
The Beach countered with an attack, finally putting two shots on goal early in the second half.
Hannah Gardner made two great saves to preserve the lead for her squad.
Late in the second frame with the Beach looking to equalize, Harvard mounted an attack and pushed the ball into the offensive third.
Hannah Griffin controlled possession in the far corner, eventually getting a pass over to
Angela Caloia who found Bebar at the top of the 18, giving her enough space to deposit a shot in the bottom left corner of the net and put Harvard up two.
The clock wound down and showed Harvard earning another victory, this time over Long Beach State by a score of 2-0.
