Men’s Tennis Falls to Columbia in ECAC Championship

HANOVER, NH – In a battle of ranked opponents and a rematch of the 2022 ECAC Championship, No. 14 Harvard Men's Tennis fell to No. 19 Columbia, 3-4. 
 
The day began with Columbia winning at the No. 1 and 3 doubles positions to secure the doubles point and go up 1-0.  Ronan Jachuck and Steven Sun did secure a doubles win, ending the weekend 3-0 in doubles play.
 
The Crimson got themselves on the board with a singles win from Valdemar Pape.  No. 10 Henry von der Schulenburg was then able to tie things up by downing No. 32 Roko Horvat (Columbia) at the No. 2 position.
 
The Lions and the Crimson went on to trade wins in the next two matches finished.  Harvard dropped the match at the No. 3 position before Ronan Jachuck defeated No. 92 nationally ranked, Max Westphal (Columbia). 
 
No. 13 Harris Walker and No. 14 Michael Zheng (Columbia) were matched up once again to decide the match at the No. 1 position.  Despite a hard-fought battle, Walker ultimately fell, and Harvard dropped the contest, 3-4. 

Harvard Highlights

  • The Crimson picked up two ranked wins on the night with von der Schulenburg and Jachuck defeating the No. 32 and 92 nationally ranked players.
  • Jachuck and Sun went a perfect 3-0 in doubles play this weekend.  The duo now sits at 8-1 this spring and 11-1 for the 2022-23 season.
  • Pape improves to 5-2 for the spring season as he went a perfect 3-0 in the Crimson three matches this weekend.
  • The all-time series between Harvard and Columbia now sits at 69-22.  The Crimson are 1-1 this season against the Lions and the two teams will matchup at least once more this season once Ivy League play gets underway in April.

Next Up

The Crimson will be off for three weeks before they begin their spring break trip to the San Diego, CA area.  Their first contest on the trip will be against San Diego State on March 13 at 5:00 p.m. ET.  That same day, Harvard will take on UC San Diego at 8:00 p.m. ET.
