SAN LUIA OBISPO, Calif. – Harvard women's tennis (8-7) defeated No. 54 BYU (7-5) 5-2 on Friday, March 17, at Cal Poly University. The Crimson is now 4-0 all-time against the Cougars. This is also Harvard's first win over a ranked opponent this season.
Starting in doubles, Harvard's
Rachel Arbitman and
Iveta Daujotaite defeated BYU's Emilee Astle and Jacque Dunyon 7-5 in the one position. A 6-4 win from
Angel You and
Charlotte Owensby gave the Crimson the doubles win.
In singles, after falling short in her first set 7-5,
Sany Gawande notched an impressive comeback win in the four spot, winning the second and third set 6-1, 6-4 respectively. Victories from
Sophia Ho,
Mihaela Marculescu and
Iveta Daujotaite sealed the Harvard 5-2 win.
