Tarek Announced as Skillman Award Finalist

CAMBRDIGE, Mass. – As Marwan Tarek wraps up his decorated career with the Crimson, he inches closer to another accomplishment, being named a finalist for the 2023 Skillman Award.  Tarek joins Omar El Torkey (Virginia) and Matias Knudsen (Drexel) as the three finalists this year.

About the Skillman Award

The Skillman Award is the top honor for a men's college squash player.  Each year the honor is awarded to a senior student-athlete who has displayed the upmost sportsmanship and skill throughout their careers.  The three finalists will be judged by CSA coaches on six areas, on-court poise and demeanor, skill level and ability in squash, team play, contributions to college squash, leadership, and cooperation with players, coaches, and tournament officials.

Tarek's Decorated Career

Nearing the close of his Harvard career, Tarek leaves the Crimson with a remarkable record of 56-4 and four team National Championships.  For the entirety of his career, the Ciaro, Eygpt native has played at the No. 1 or 2 position for the Crimson, consistently making an impact atop the ladder from his first year.  Tarek earned First-Team All-American on three separate occasions and First-Team All-Ivy in all four seasons.  This year, Tarek capped his Ivy career winning Ivy League Player of the Year following his dominant 6-0 record in conference play.  In his sophomore stint, Tarek claimed the Individual National Championships, winning the Pool Trophy.  As a quarterfinalist last season, Tarek ranked 4th in the individual rankings.  With all of his success off the court, Tarek has also been a role model off the court, serving as a captain in his final season with the Crimson.

Harvard's History

The Crimson have had seven Skillman Award recipients since its inception.  If Tarek were to be awarded the honor, Harvard will have taken home the award two years in a row.  Last season, Victor Crouin brought home the award for the Crimson for the first time since Ali Farag in 2014.
