Women's Lacrosse Edged By Brown, 11-6, in Ivy Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior midfielder Riley Campbell had a season high three goals but Harvard women's lacrosse (0-3, 0-1 Ivy) lost its Ivy League opener at Brown (2-1, 1-0 Ivy) on Saturday (March 4) afternoon.

Facing a deficit, Harvard rallied to take an early second half lead at 6-5. But the Bears defense held Harvard in check the rest of the way.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Charlotte Hodgson got on the board early for Harvard with a free position goal at 10:25 of the first quarter to make it 1-1. She now has goals in each of her first three collegiate games.
  • Brown led 3-1 after the first quarter, but Campbell scored the first of her three goals at 12:49 of the second quarter, cutting in from the right side and hitting the back of the cage.
  • The Crimson faced a 5-2 deficit later in the second quarter, but Harvard began a four-goal run with Campbell again scoring for Harvard. Junior midfielder Maddie Barkate found Campbell alone in front, and she fired a shot into the net at 7:44 of the second quarter.
  • Just over three minutes later, first-year Kate Gilliam flipped a free position shot past Brown's Claire Mahoney to make it 5-4 at 4:12.
  • Then Harvard tied the game before the end of the half, on a beautiful passing play, with Callie Hem finding Campbell for a quick shot from right in front the circle at 1:53.
  • Harvard took the lead at 6-5 on Callie Hem's low-to-high free position shot at 6:09 of the third quarter in a player-up situation.
  • But Brown responded with three straight goals to end the third quarter, then added three more in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter to take command of the game.
