LONG BEACH, Calif. – Harvard women's soccer dropped its matchup with Long Beach State tonight, after a late goal pushed the foe to a 3-2 victory. The Crimson (2-1-0, 0-0-0 Ivy) fell in a regular season game on the road for the first time in over four years as the all-time series with the Beach is now tied at 1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crimson and the Beach met on the pitch tonight for just the second time in program history and the first time in California.
- Harvard pressured early, firing off four quality shots in the first 15 minutes. Gabby DelPico registered the first legitimate scoring chance of the contest, putting a low shot on target that was saved by the LBSU keeper.
- Just seven minutes later, Megan Mackey also had a shot get nudged out of the goal by the Beach.
- LBSU countered with a shot midway through the first half but Rhiannon Stewart was up to the challenge and recorded her first career save to keep the game scoreless.
- At the end of the half, Harvard held the advantage in shots (7-4) and shots on target (2-1) but the game remained scoreless.
- Josefine Hasbo netted the first goal of the game early in the second half to put the Crimson up one.
- Long Beach State countered with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead 57' into the action. DelPico had another solid look at the equalizer just a few minutes later but was turned away.
- Ólöf Kristinsdóttir notched the equalizer in the 79' minute off an assist from Hannah Bebar.
- Long Beach State scored the go-ahead goal in the 88th minutes to seal the win.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Josefine Hasbo stayed red hot, scoring her third goal in three games and bringing her season points total to a team-leading seven.
- Ólöf Kristinsdóttir scored her second goal of the season in the match.
- Hannah Bebar notched her first point of the season with an assist on the Kristinsdóttir goal.
- Gabby DelPico put three shots on goal in the contest.
- Harvard outshot Long Beach State 16-10.
- This is the first regular season loss on the road for the Crimson since the 2019 season opener.
