Huge Second Half Pushes Women's Rugby Past Brown In 48-14 Win

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A second half surge pushed Harvard women's rugby (5-0, 1-0 Ivy) to a 48-14 win in the Crimson's Ivy League opener against Brown (2-2, 0-1). Harvard is 5-0 to start a 15s season for the first time since 2021 and have outscored its opponents 280-38 over those five victories. The 48 points are the most that Brown has allowed this season. 

Lennox London paced the Crimson offense, recording three tries and 15 points. London has recorded hat tricks in back-to-back games. Cameron Fields tallied 10 points on two tries, while Skylar Jordan logged 13 points on four conversions and one try. 

How It Happened:

The first half was a defensive battle, as both sides fought for possession and positive field position. The scoring opened with 8:15 remaining on the clock in the first half, as Fields connected with Chloe Headland for a 5-0 Crimson lead. As time expired in the first half, Brown intercepted a Harvard pass, taking a 7-5 lead with a try and conversion.

Harvard owned the second half, as the Crimson offense exploded for seven unanswered tries. Brogan Mior hustled her way into the zone to put Harvard in the lead with 35:40 left in the game, as a conversion from Jordan made the score 12-7. At the 32:18 minute mark, Tiahna Padilla passed the ball to Fields on the outside flank, as the sophomore logged her first try of the contest, 17-7.

London got her name on the score sheet with 28:51 left on the clock, as the Fort Mill, South Carolina native raced down the sideline for her first try, 22-7. Padilla sparked a Crimson attack two minutes later, finding Fields on the outside for her second try. Jordan converted the kick to extend Harvard's advantage, 29-7. 

With Brown in the attacking half, London intercepted a pass and dashed down the field for her second score, as Jordan made the conversion to push the Crimson lead, 43-7. Jordan capped her incredible performance with a try and conversion, finishing the 43-point Harvard scoring run, 48-7. With the clock winding down, Brown scored the last try of the game and converted, 48-14.

Following a bye-week, the Crimson hit the road on Saturday, Oct. 14 for a clash against Princeton. Harvard concludes the 2023 regular season on Saturday, Oct. 21 with a highly anticipated matchup against Dartmouth.
