Wrestling Takes on Cornell and Binghamton in EIWA Doubleheader

ITHACA, N.Y. & VESTAL, N.Y. –– Harvard wrestling travels to New York this weekend for an EIWA doubleheader, hoping to build momentum on an already impressive start to the dual season. The Crimson will face Cornell at 12:00 p.m. and Binghamton at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27.

WHAT TO KNOW:

  • Senior Philip Conigliaro improved to 14-1 on the season last weekend, earning him the No. 5 spot on the most recent DI coaches poll ranking for the 174-pound weight class.
  • Joshua Kim, Senior 165-pound wrestler, is likely to face No. 3 Julian Ramirez (Cornell) and No. 20 Brevin Cassella (Binghamton). Kim, Corona, Calif. native,  has started the season with a 10-4 record, undefeated in dual competition.
  • No. 19 Junior Diego Sotelo looks to make a statement this weekend vs. EIWA opponents. Despite beating the No. 1 ranked 125-pound wrestler and staying undefeated in dual matches, he ranks 4th in the recent EIWA ranking update.
  • The Crimson's current win leader faces sophomore Brett Ungar (Cornell) who ranked 2nd on the list, No. 12 nationally. This will be Sotelo and Ungar's third match-up of the year and fourth all time. Sotelo beat Ungar last year in the annual dual meet, but Ungar has edged out two victories himself this season.
  • Senior 184-pound wrestler Leo Tarantino did not compete against Sacred Heart but still stands with an undefeated of 3-0 in the dual season. He is anticipated to face No. 6 Chris Foca (Cornell) and No. 12 Jacob Nolan (Binghamton), who both rank at the top of the EIWA conference.
  • Jack Crook, sophomore 149-pound wrestler, is also undefeated in dual action this season. He ranked 8th on the EIWA conference rankings in his weight class. His probable match-up Ethan Fernandes Jr. (Cornell) ranked first, No. 17 nationally.
  • Harvard trails Binghamton 2-4 in dual matches all time.
