Women’s Tennis Closes ECACs with Second Consecutive Sweep

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's tennis won its second match of the weekend and closed out ECAC action this morning by downing Dartmouth, 4-0.        

How it Happened

Despite in a tight battle in each of the three doubles matches, Harvard was able to prevail to capture the doubles point for the second straight day.  The Big Green were able to take the first match at the No. 3 position but a pair of 7-5 results at No. 1 and 2 in favor of the Crimson, gave the team the advantage. 
 
As Sany Gawande returned to the singles lineup, she moved the Crimson lead to 2-0 with a dominant victory at the No. 4 spot.  Facing Amelija Swaffer-Selff (Dartmouth), Gawande dropped the least number of games of any Crimson player by winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. 
 
Going straight down the line, Maxi Duncan got back in the win column and pulled the Crimson within a point of clinching the victory.  Winning in straight sets, Duncan downed Ujvala Jupali (Dartmouth), 6-3, 6-1.  With the victory, the junior registers her ninth of the season and improved to 5-2 in dual action. 
 
Kate Kim, who continues to lead the team in singles victories, provided the clinching point this morning in come from behind fashion.  In the first set, the Crimson first-year fell behind 2-4 and was at risk of falling even further behind.  After moving the score to 3-4, Kim proceeded to not drop a single game the rest of the match, ultimately clinching the Crimson victory with a 6-4, 6-0 decision. 

Harvard Highlights

  • With their doubles victory today, Holly Fischer and Stephanie Yakoff completed an undefeated weekend, going 3-0 throughout the team's trio of match ups. 
  • Maxi Duncan and Kavya Karra's clinching win today came as the duo teamed up for the very first time this season. 
  • Kate Kim went 2-1 in singles play throughout the weekend, improving to 6-1 in dual play and 16-4 overall for 2023-24. 
  • Picking up her first win of the weekend, Duncan improved to 5-2 in dual action and is one win away from reaching double digit singles victories for the year. 
  • With its six total singles wins across the final two days of ECAC action, the Crimson picked up its 70th victory of 2023-24.
