CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's tennis fell in the opening round of the ECAC Championship this afternoon by dropping a 4-0 decision to Yale.
How it Happened
The Crimson began the day by battling in doubles action. After dropping the No. 2 position match, the Crimson evened the score at No. 1.
Holly Fischer and
Stephanie Yakoff downed Shyla Aggarwal and Erin Ha (Yale), 6-4. Ultimately, the Bulldogs were able to prevail in the final match, taking the No. 3 doubles, 6-4.
With three early wins at the No. 2, 4, and 6 spots the Bulldogs were able to clinch the match and advance to the semifinals.
Maxi Duncan put up a strong comeback effort at the No. 4 position by forcing tiebreakers in the second set before narrowly falling 7-6 (7).
Despite coming up short against Yale, the Crimson had leads in each of its final three outstanding matches. At the No. 1 spot, Fischer had taken the first set and was pulling out to a third set lead. Yakoff and
Sany Gawande had each won their first sets and were looking strong in the second.
