Women’s Tennis Narrowly Falls to Princeton, 4-3

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  – No. 38 Harvard women's tennis (18-4, 4-2 Ivy) dropped a heart breaker to No. 44 Princeton, 3-4, to conclude its Ivy weekend on the road. 

How it Happened

The Crimson narrowly missed the doubles point this afternoon after falling at the No. 2 and 3 positions with 6-4 decisions.  Holly Fischer and Stephanie Yakoff picked up the sole doubles win of the day, cruising past Leena Bennetto and Eva Elbaz, 6-1. 

Three Crimson players were able to grab singles victories this afternoon to pressure the Tigers to the very end. 

Yakoff looked dominant at the No. 2 spot, dropping just one game across her straight set victory over Bennetto (Princeton). 

Charlotte Owensby joined with her own straight set win, defeating Maia Sung at the No. 3 position, 6-3, 6-2.  With the victory, Owensby concludes the weekend undefeated in singles action. 

Sany Gawande was able to pick up the final point of the day for the Crimson, downing Eva Elbaz (Princeton), 6-2, 7-5.  In the final three singles matches, Harvard battled tightly, forcing three sets in each. 

Harvard Highlights

  • Fischer and Yakoff continue to lead the Crimson in doubles victories in 2023-24, improving to 14-6 with their dominant win this afternoon. 
  • Yakoff has accumulated the second most singles wins of any Harvard player this season, standing with a record of 18-5 after dropping just one game at the No. 2 spot. 
  • Owensby and Gawande have both been dominant in singles play as of late as each completed an undefeated weekend with their victories over their Princeton opponents.
