Women's Tennis Sets New Program Record with 12th Straight Victory

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 50 Harvard women's tennis (16-2, 2-0 Ivy) set a new program record with 12 straight victories after downing Brown (10-9, 1-2 Ivy) 4-0 this afternoon.  With the victory the Crimson improve to 2-0 in league play and move to the top of the conference standings as the only remaining undefeated squad. 

How it Happened

The Crimson began the match by cruising to the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and 3 spots.  Between Holly Fischer and Stephanie Yakoff and Natalie Block and Sany Gawande's two victories, the Crimson dropped just three games en route to going up 1-0 in the match. 

Harvard carried its momentum into singles play beginning with Kate Kim posting a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 5 position for her 23rd overall victory of the year.

Soon after, Stephanie Yakoff moved the Crimson within a point of clinching as she downed Ali Benedetto (Brown) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.

With three matches outstanding, Charlotte Owensby ultimately secured the Harvard win by cruising to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 position.

  • With its win this afternoon, the Crimson have now won 12 straight contests, setting a new program record for consecutive victories. 
  • With its pair of conference victories this weekend, Harvard sits atop the league standings as the only team still undefeated. 
  • Holly Fischer and Stephanie Yakoff lead the team in doubles wins as they are the only Crimson duo to have surpassed double digit victories by improving to 12-5 today. 
  • Kate Kim continues to lead the Crimson in singles victories, having accumulated an overall record of 23-4 including being 13-1 in dual action. 
  • Charlotte Owensby picked up her first Ivy league win of the season with her clinching victory over Nora Lee (Brown). 
  • Yakoff trails only Kim in individual singles victories, currently holding an overall record of 16-4.
