CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University sailing won the 2024 Intercollegiate Sailing Association Open Fleet Race National Championship on Monday on Memorial Day on The Charles River at the MIT Sailing Pavilion and Harvard Sailing Center with MIT and Harvard serving as co-hosts.
Harvard captured the ICSA Open Fleet Race National Championship for the sixth time in program history joining the teams from 1952, 1953, 1959, 1974, and 2003.
Locked in a tie for first place entering the final race of the day, the Crimson claimed first place with a total team score of 227 points, edging second-place Yale (235 points), third-place Dartmouth (247), and 15 other schools in the 18-team field.
The Crimson's A division entry tallied 130 points, including six top-three finishes with victories in rotations one, three, eight, and 16. Harvard came in fourth place in the division. In the A entry,
Lachlain McGranahan represented the Crimson as a skipper while
Marbella Marlo competed as crew.
The Crimson's B division boat took first place in its division with 97 points. Harvard posted seven top-three finishes, including wins across six rotations – one, two, eight, 14, 15, and 17. In the division,
Justin Callahan competed for the Crimson as a skipper while
Kennedy Leehealey represented Harvard as a crew.
Harvard recorded top-seven finishes over the over the course of all four ICSA National Championships this spring. The Crimson came in second in the ICSA Open Team Race, fifth in the ICSA Women's Team Race, and seventh in the ICSA Women's Fleet Race before collecting first place in the ICSA Open Fleet Race as the final event of the collegiate season.
