Women's Lacrosse Drops Tight Battle with No. 8 Yale

NEW HAVEN, CT. –  No. 23 Harvard women's lacrosse narrowly fell to No. 8 Yale on Friday evening in the semi-final round of the 2024 Ivy Tournament. Dropping a 14-10 decision to the host Bulldogs, Harvard had key performances from seniors Callie Hem, Maddie Barkate, and Riley Campbell who combined for nine of the ten Crimson goals. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • The Crimson defense stood strong in the early minutes after holding off consistent pressure from the Bulldogs. Down 2-1 early, Chloe Provenzano and the Crimson defense killed a penalty and forced multiple turnovers to start the game. 
  • Maddie Barkate opened the scoring for the Crimson to tie the game at one after making a great spin move at the corner of the net.
  • Down 2-1, Riley Campbell scored to tie the game at two and send the Crimson on a run after netting the first of four straight goals for Harvard. 
  • The first of two goals the senior would tally in the first quarter, Barkate added another marker on a free position look to give the Crimson the lead. 
  • Callie Hem scored the next two goals for the Crimson including an incredible goal in traffic just before the first quarter came to a close. 
  • Caroline Mullahy and Callie Hem netted goals in the second quarter to protect the Crimson lead as the Bulldogs began to push back. 
  • Harvard led 7-6 at the end of the first half. 
  • Callie Hem netted her fourth of the game to start the second half to regain the two-goal lead in the opening offensive possession for the Crimson. Hem finished the game with five goals. 
  • Riley Campbell and Callie Hem scored the goals in the second half for Harvard. 
  • Yale outscored the Crimson 8-3 in the second half. 
GAME NOTES 
  • Maddie Barkate finished the game with eight draw controls. 
  • Caroline Mullahy added to her assist totals with another three helpers this evening. 
  • Callie Hem's five-goal game in the Ivy Tournament is tied for fourth all-time in Ivy Tournament history for goals in a single game.
