Women's Lacrosse Adds Sydney Scales as an Assistant Coach

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sydney Scales will join the Harvard women's lacrosse program as an assistant coach, Devon Wills, The Carole Kleinfelder Head Coach for Harvard Women's Lacrosse, announced today. Scales begins her coaching career after a very successful collegiate career at Boston College where she was a two-time national champion.

"I am so excited to welcome Sydney to Harvard!" Coach Wills said on Thursday. " While she has had an amazing career as a defender at BC, Sydney is a true student of the game and she has knowledge and skill to cover many areas of the game. Syd is a great leader who's work ethic and drive will be a great asset to our program."

A native of Walpole, Scales played all four years at Boston College and was named the ACC Tournament's Most Outstanding Player in her senior year on her way to her second national championship. The defender finished her career with 111 caused turnovers and 142 ground balls, which was good for fifth all-time in program history. Throughout her time in Chestnut Hill, BC added 76 wins, two ACC titles, four consecutive final fours, and two national championships.

Beginning her collegiate career with a spot on the All-ACC Freshman Team, Scales registered her first career point in the NCAA quarterfinal against Notre Dame, while notching a caused turnover and a ground ball in the Eagles' 2021 national championship victory.

Earning impressive accolades in her sophomore and junior seasons, Scales was named an IWLCA First-Team All-American, an Inside Lacrosse First-Team All-American, a USA Lacrosse Magazine Second-Team All-American, and earned a  spot on the All-ACC First Team in 2023.

Starting in all 20 games as a senior captain last season, Scales won the  Eagle-of-the-Year award, while also being named ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year. A top 25 Tewaaraton Award finalist, Scales won her second ACC Defender of the Year in as many seasons after also being named the IWLCA Defender of the Year.
