No. 1 Women’s Squash Victorious Against No. 6 Stanford

NEW YORK, N.Y. – On the eve of the CSA Individual National Championships, the top-ranked Harvard women's squash team continued to roll with a 6-3 win over the No. 5 Stanford Cardinal. The Crimson (7-1, 4-0 Ivy) improved its win streak over the Cardinal to 20 consecutive matches with the result this morning, handing the team its first loss of the season. The top six student-athletes on the Crimson ladder led the way with victories to help the team to the win.

How It Happened

Saran Nghiem and Caroline Fouts continued their strong seasons with victories at the one and two matchups, respectively. Both won their matches in sweeping fashion.

At the third matchup, Lucie Stefanoni rallied back from an 0-2 deficit to win 3-2 and keep her perfect individual record intact. With her back against the wall, Stefanoni rattled off wins in the final three games, 11-5, 16-14 and 11-8, to seal the victory.

At the fourth pairing, Habiba Eldafrawy held off a late rally from her opponent to claim a 3-2 win. After winning the first two games, Eldafrawy's Stanford opponent fought back with a pair of game wins before the senior closed the door with a 11-6 win in the fifth and final game.

First-year Ocean Ma will head into the National Championships with some momentum after earning a 3-1 win at the fives match. Molly Stoltz recorded the final Crimson point with a thrilling 3-2 win over her opponent at the six pairing. Stoltz was down 1-2 in her match before winning the final two games – including a 12-10 tiebreak win in the fourth game – to get the victory.
