CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Women's Tennis played its first home match of the spring campaign and defeated crosstown foe Boston College, 6-1, at the Murr Center Tennis Courts. With the victory, the Crimson moved to 1-3 on the season, while the Eagles dropped to 3-2.
Harvard opened the afternoon by taking the doubles point after claiming wins at the top and bottom of the lineup.
Holly Fischer and
Charlotte Owensby picked up a 7-6 decision over BC's top duo of Alex Torre and Nada Dimovska. Meanwhile at No. 3,
Maxi Duncan and
Natalie Block breezed to a 6-3 victory in their match with Olivia Benton and Tola Glowacka.
In singles, Fischer was extended to three sets in her match with Natalie Eordekian, but emerged victorious, collecting a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win at the No. 1 position. Harvard's 4-6 spots in the lineup, meanwhile, shined as Duncan, Block and
Kavya Karra all pocketed wins. Duncan breezed to a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Glowack at No. 4, with Block and Karra each winning in three sets. Yakoff found herself in a battle at No. 3, but delivered the Crimson a point after Agar was forced to retire.
Harvard, which has now won three straight vs. Boston College, will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 2, when it welcomes Boston University to Murr Center. First serve is slated for noon ET with the action airing live on Stretch Internet.
