Women’s Soccer Falls to Columbia in Season Finale

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Harvard women's soccer team fought hard in its final regular season contest against Columbia this afternoon but was not able to get past the Lions, who took a 2-1 result over the Crimson. The Lions (5-6-3, 4-2-1 Ivy) took one of the final two spots in the Ivy League Tournament with the victory over the Crimson (5-6-3, 3-3-1 Ivy) this afternoon. The loss brings Harvard 2025-26 season to an end after what became a special season for the Crimson.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Harvard women's soccer made its way down to the Big Apple this afternoon to take on the Columbia Lions in the final weekend of the Ivy League women's soccer season. The Crimson and the Lions were battling for one of the remaining spots in the Ivy League Tournament in what was a win-and-in situation for both squads.

It was Harvard who set the pace in the early going, logging two early shots on goal from Jasmine Leshnick and Írena Héðinsdóttir Gonzalez. Columbia countered with a chance of its own 16' into the match, but all three shots were cleaned up by the goalkeepers to keep the game knotted at 0-0.

Columbia was first to the scoreboard in the match, scoring the game's first goal at the 18' mark of the contest. Two more shot attempts were created by Harvard – one by Anya Van Den Einde that was on goal and saved by the Columbia keeper – but the Lions defense was up to the task to hold on to a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Out of the halftime break, Columbia managed to tally its second goal of the game, taking a 2-0 lead at the 57' mark of the contest. Harvard did not shy away facing the deficit, creating a number of chances down the stretch in high danger situations. The first chance came off a corner kick, where a loose ball in the box was collected at the last second. The second chance came from Lauren Muniz who had two chances saved off the goal line at the 70' mark.

The Crimson made a push in the final minutes, getting a goal from Erin Gordon with just over a minute remaining but it was not enough to lift the Crimson to the result as Columbia escaped with a 2-1 win over Harvard.

Harvard Highlights

  • Erin Gordon scored her first career goal in the contest.
  • Rhiannon Stewart made two saves.
  • Harvard held the advantage in corner kicks, 10-0.
